The New Savage 110 Ultralite Elite: Precision Without the Bulk

Built for Accuracy, Designed for the Hunt

Competition rifles built for the Precision Rifle Series (PRS) often stretch close to 20 pounds once outfitted with heavy barrels, chassis systems, oversized optics, and suppressors. They’re incredibly stable and capable of remarkable precision but far from ideal when you’re hiking steep terrain in search of game.

The new Savage 110 Ultralite Elite bridges that gap. It incorporates lessons learned from the competition world while trimming weight wherever possible, resulting in a rifle that carries easily yet shoots with impressive precision.

At its core is a factory-blueprinted stainless-steel Model 110 action. “Blueprinted” means every critical dimension is machined to exact specifications rather than within standard tolerances. The goal: maximum consistency and repeatable accuracy.

Premium Barrel and Suppressor-Ready Setup

Up front, Savage pairs the action with a carbon-fiber-wrapped stainless barrel from Proof Research. The barrel follows a Sendero Lite contour to minimize weight while maintaining rigidity.

The muzzle is threaded 5/8x24, ready for a brake or suppressor. During testing, the rifle was run suppressed with the Savage B.O.B. suppressor, creating a softer, more comfortable shooting experience.

A factory-installed 20 MOA Picatinny rail comes mounted to the receiver, giving shooters added elevation adjustment for long-range work without affecting standard hunting zeroes. The receiver and bolt both wear a black Cerakote finish, while the bolt body features lightening cuts to reduce weight and friction.

Lightweight MDT Chassis System

The rifle is housed in the MDT HNT26 chassis, built from magnesium with carbon-fiber components. The forend, pistol grip, and buttstock are all carbon fiber even the bolt knob is carbon fiber reflecting just how aggressively weight was trimmed.

Despite the lightweight construction, adjustability isn’t sacrificed:

  • Length of pull can be tuned with included spacers
  • Comb height is adjustable for proper optic alignment
  • The stock folds in two stages for compact transport
  • Foam filling eliminates hollow noise

The forend includes an integrated Arca rail (machined directly into the chassis) along with M-LOK slots and QD sling sockets, making it adaptable for both competition and field use.

AccuTrigger and Magazine System

Savage equips the Ultralite Elite with its well-known AccuTrigger, adjustable from approximately 1.5 to 4 pounds. Unlike many trigger systems that merely block trigger movement, the AccuTrigger blocks the sear itself, allowing for lighter, safer pull weights. The tested trigger broke cleanly at about 2.5 pounds.

The rifle feeds from AICS-pattern single-feed magazines and ships with a three-round magazine, keeping it hunting-focused. Higher-capacity options are readily available for shooters interested in competition use.

Optics and Practical Setup

As delivered, the rifle does not include iron sights. In testing, it was paired with a lightweight Burris Fullfield 2.5-10x optic in aluminum rings to maintain the rifle’s lightweight character. While full PRS optics offer more magnification and durability, they would significantly increase overall weight defeating the rifle’s purpose as a backcountry-friendly precision platform.

With scope and rings installed, total weight remained around 6¾ pounds extremely light for a rifle capable of half-MOA accuracy.

On-Range Performance

Accuracy testing showed consistent half-MOA groups across multiple factory loads. That level of precision, especially in a sub-7-pound hunting rifle, is noteworthy. While elite PRS competitors might chase quarter-MOA performance, the Ultralite Elite delivers more than enough precision for ethical long-range hunting and leaves room for shooter improvement.

The suppressor and clean trigger break made extended range sessions comfortable, and recoil was manageable despite the rifle’s low mass.

Final Thoughts

The Ultralite Elite carries a premium price tag, but its components justify the cost. Attempting to build a comparable lightweight precision rifle sourcing a carbon-fiber barrel, premium chassis, and performing precision action work would likely meet or exceed its MSRP, not to mention the time investment involved.

For hunters seeking serious long-range capability without hauling a competition-weight rifle through the backcountry, this model delivers. And for those curious about dabbling in PRS, it offers a lightweight foundation that can be modified with additional weight when needed.

Modern materials, modular design, and competition-grade accuracy in a mountain-ready package that’s the appeal here.
