Red dot sights such as Aimpoint’s well-known T-1 and T-2 are widely regarded for their speed and simplicity. They provide a bright aiming point that excels in fast-moving engagements and in varied lighting conditions. However, as distance to the target increases, the limitations of a 1x optic become more apparent. Identifying and accurately engaging targets at longer ranges often requires additional magnification.

To address this limitation, magnifiers were developed to pair with red dot sights. Typically offering magnification levels between 2x and 6x, these devices can be flipped into place when needed and moved aside when the shooter wants the speed of a standard red dot. While effective, the dual-optic setup introduces additional weight, cost, and complexity due to the need for separate mounting systems.
Swedish manufacturer Spuhr, known for its precision engineering and durable optic mounts, has tackled this challenge with an innovative solution. Founded in 2007 by Håkan Spuhr, the company specializes in advanced mounting systems designed for professional and military applications. Its latest offering, the RDF-20225K, integrates both a red dot mount and a quick-detach magnifier system into a single robust platform.
The RDF-20225K was reportedly developed in response to a European military request for a lightweight yet rugged mounting solution for the Aimpoint T-2 and its magnifier. Spuhr’s approach simplifies the system by using the red dot mount as the base for the magnifier attachment.
The magnifier mount connects via a steel spigot that inserts directly into the main mount. A cross-bolt button locks the spigot securely in place or releases it for quick removal. This design allows the magnifier to be attached or detached rapidly without tools.
The mount uses the Aimpoint Micro footprint, meaning it can accommodate any optic using the same mounting pattern. It attaches to a standard MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail with three heavy-duty Torx screws, and the required torque specification 45 inch-pounds is engraved directly onto the mount.
Two height options are available: the 2.25-inch model tested for this review and a taller 2.91-inch variant. A backup iron sight can also be purchased separately and installed on the mount, providing an additional layer of redundancy.

In terms of build quality, the RDF-20225K stands out. Fit and finish are excellent, with solid machining and high-quality hardware throughout. The magnifier attaches firmly with no noticeable movement once locked in place.
Attaching the magnifier involves pushing the cross-bolt on the left side of the mount to the right, exposing a red O-ring. The spigot is then inserted until it clicks into place. Pushing the cross-bolt back to the left locks the assembly securely. Removing the magnifier is equally straightforward.
For shooters who prefer to keep the magnifier attached but out of the way, the unit can also rotate downward. In this position it sits slightly to the left of the rifle’s centerline rather than protruding significantly off to the side.
With an Aimpoint T-2 and a 3x magnifier installed, the total weight of the system is approximately 17.2 ounces. The 2.25-inch height promotes a heads-up shooting position that aids rapid target acquisition, particularly when engaging while standing or moving. The height also works well with head-mounted night-vision equipment.
When the magnifier is removed and stored in a pouch, the rifle becomes lighter and less fatiguing during extended use. The compact way the magnifier stores near the rifle’s centerline also compares favorably with traditional flip-to-side mounts, though it competes closely with Unity Tactical’s flip-to-center design.

Despite its strengths, the system is not without potential downsides. The 2.25-inch height may be less comfortable for prone shooting compared with lower mounts. There is also some question about whether a severe side impact could damage the wall that retains the magnifier spigot.
Cost may also be a consideration for some users. The RDF-20225K mount with magnifier interface carries a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $410, while the optional A-0233 backup iron sight is priced at $70. Purchased separately, the T-2 mount costs $218, and the matching RDM-20225 30mm magnifier yoke is $202.
Overall, Spuhr’s RDF-20225K is an impressive mounting solution that combines durability, thoughtful engineering, and flexibility. By integrating the red dot and magnifier mounting systems, the design reduces complexity while maintaining robust performance. For shooters seeking a premium mount capable of supporting both rapid close-range engagements and magnified precision, the RDF-20225K offers a compelling option.
