Overview Tisas USA has expanded its handgun lineup with the new PX 5.7 Optic Ready (OR) pistol, chambered in the high-velocity 5.7x28mm cartridge. Designed to be affordable, optics-ready, and enjoyable to shoot, the PX 5.7 OR targets shooters looking for modern features at a competitive price point.

Once considered a niche round, the 5.7x28mm cartridge has seen a resurgence in popularity, with manufacturers like FN, Ruger, Smith & Wesson, and others introducing handguns chambered for it. Originally developed as a NATO PDW cartridge, the 5.7x28mm offers high velocity, low recoil, and the ability to penetrate soft body armor when loaded with specialized ammunition.
For civilian shooters, the cartridge’s advantages include mild recoil, flat trajectory, high magazine capacity, and lightweight ammunition. However, the cost of ammunition remains higher than traditional 9mm, though expanding production is gradually improving affordability.
The PX 5.7 OR features a modern polymer frame with a textured grip and well-placed controls. Despite its large size necessary to accommodate the long 5.7x28mm cartridge the pistol feels balanced and comfortable in hand. It includes an undercut trigger guard for improved grip comfort and a Picatinny rail for mounting lights or accessories.
The pistol measures approximately 8.5 inches in length, 5.5 inches in height, and weighs around 24 ounces, making it substantial but not overly bulky.
The steel slide is finished in Tennifer and includes front and rear serrations for improved handling. It is cut to accept optics using the RMRsc footprint, making it red-dot ready straight from the factory.
Inside, the PX 5.7 OR uses a 4.8-inch forged barrel with button rifling and a full-length guide rod. A loaded chamber indicator allows users to visually confirm when a round is chambered.

The PX 5.7 OR is striker-fired with a trigger pull of approximately 4.5 pounds. The trigger has a clean break and a distinct, though slightly long, reset. It incorporates a blade-style trigger safety similar to Glock pistols.
Ambidextrous slide release levers and a reversible magazine release make the pistol suitable for both right- and left-handed shooters. The double-column magazines hold 20 rounds and feature witness holes to indicate round count.
The pistol comes equipped with a green fiber optic front sight and an adjustable serrated rear sight, providing a clear and fast sight picture. For shooters who prefer customization, the PX 5.7 uses Glock-pattern sights, allowing access to a wide range of aftermarket options.
Unlike traditional Browning tilting-barrel designs, the PX 5.7 OR uses a delayed blowback operating system. In this system, the barrel and slide move together briefly after firing, allowing chamber pressures to drop before extraction, resulting in reliable operation and smooth cycling.

In testing, the PX 5.7 OR demonstrated reliable feeding, firing, and ejection across various ammunition types. Recoil was light, making the pistol easy to control during rapid fire.
Accuracy at 25 yards averaged around 3 inches with most loads, with some ammunition performing slightly better. Subsonic loads functioned reliably but impacted lower than supersonic rounds, requiring point-of-impact adjustments.
The Tisas PX 5.7 OR stands out as a fun, reliable, and affordable entry into the 5.7x28mm handgun market. With a 20+1 capacity, optics-ready slide, and competitive MSRP of $499.99, it offers strong value compared to higher-priced competitors. For shooters interested in the 5.7 platform, the PX 5.7 OR represents an attractive and budget-friendly option.
