The Ruger RXM is a compact, striker-fired 9mm developed with Magpul, offering a Glock 19-sized platform with an improved trigger, modular chassis, and optics-ready slide. Its ergonomic grip and swappable fire control insert enhance versatility. Reliable and accurate, it delivers premium features at an excellent value around $499.

Ruger partnered with Magpul to design the RXM, a compact 9mm pistol aimed squarely at the everyday concealed-carry user. Roughly the size of a Glock 19, the RXM focuses on refining the compact defensive pistol formula with better ergonomics, improved trigger performance, and modular design features.
Rather than targeting military or special operations users, the RXM was developed as a practical, reliable, and comfortable handgun for daily personal defense.
One of the standout features of the RXM is its trigger. Ruger tuned the striker-fired trigger to break at just over 4.5 pounds, significantly lighter and crisper than many comparable compact striker-fired pistols. The flat-faced trigger provides a consistent press and a tactile, audible reset, offering improved control for both defensive and range use.
For a factory striker-fired pistol, the trigger quality ranks among the best in its class.
The RXM features a through-hardened steel slide with front and rear cocking serrations and a tapered nose that aids in smooth reholstering. Tall steel iron sights allow for co-witnessing with optics, and the slide includes a removable optics plate that supports direct mounting of popular red-dot footprints without adapter plates.
The barrel is alloy steel with a corrosion-resistant nitrocarburized finish and Enfield-style rifling, allowing shooters to safely use a wide range of bullet types, including lead and coated projectiles. A loaded chamber viewing port is integrated into the barrel hood for quick status checks.

The polymer frame was co-developed with Magpul and incorporates the Enhanced Handgun Grip (EHG) design. It features a subtle palm swell that improves grip stability and functions as a light magwell funnel. The frame eliminates finger grooves, allowing for a more universal fit across hand sizes, and includes textured panels on all four sides for secure control without excessive abrasion.
The raised magazine release and enlarged slide stop lever improve handling, while the single-slot accessory rail supports compact lights or lasers.
The RXM uses a removable stainless steel fire control insert (FCI), making it a chassis-based pistol. The serialized FCI allows users to swap grip modules without changing the firearm’s serialized component. Ruger and Magpul plan to release additional grip frames in different colors and sizes, expanding customization options in the future.
The pistol ships with two 15-round Magpul PMAG GL9 magazines, offering a balanced mix of capacity and concealability.
Internally, the RXM is compatible with many Gen 3 Glock-pattern components, though some aftermarket parts may require fitting. The pistol fits most Glock 19 holsters, though users should note the rounded trigger guard shape when selecting holsters.
Disassembly follows a familiar Glock-style process, making maintenance straightforward for most shooters.

In testing, the RXM demonstrated excellent reliability and accuracy across various ammunition types. The pistol performed well both on steel targets and from a benchrest, showing precision that rivals many higher-priced compact handguns.
The combination of a refined trigger and quality barrel contributed to consistent accuracy beyond typical expectations for an everyday carry pistol.
With an MSRP around $499, the Ruger RXM offers features commonly found on more expensive pistols, including modular chassis design, optics-ready slide, premium trigger feel, and Magpul-enhanced ergonomics. Given its performance and price point, the RXM represents a strong value in the compact defensive handgun market.
