The Springfield Armory Echelon Compact is a downsized, modular striker-fired pistol built for concealed carry. It keeps its swappable chassis system while adding optics-ready capability, ambidextrous controls, and strong ergonomics. With a crisp trigger, reliable performance, and manageable recoil, it competes with mid-size pistols like the Glock 19 at a solid value.

Each year, dozens of new pistols hit the market, but only a handful truly stand out as meaningful innovations. Springfield Armory’s original Echelon made a strong impression with its modular design and modern features, and now the company is expanding the lineup with a compact version designed specifically for concealed carry.
The Echelon Compact builds on the full-size model’s success by shrinking the barrel and grip while retaining the modular platform and performance features that made the original pistol popular.
The Echelon Compact features a four-inch barrel and a shortened grip frame, allowing flush-fit magazines to hold 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition. An extended magazine with an 18-round capacity is also included.
Overall, the pistol measures 7.25 inches in length and weighs about 24 ounces unloaded, making it significantly more carry-friendly than the full-size version while still large enough to shoot comfortably.
Like the full-size Echelon, the Compact uses a chassis-based system where the serialized trigger group can be removed and swapped into different grip modules. This allows users to change grip size or texture without purchasing an entirely new firearm.
Springfield offers replacement grip modules separately, giving users the option to customize fit, texture, and future color options.

The slide features highly aggressive serrations and multiple gripping surfaces designed to ensure reliable manipulation in all conditions. The forward portion of the slide includes a narrowed “trench cut,” and additional scalloped areas provide extra traction points.
The barrel, slide, and magazines are treated with a black nitride finish for corrosion resistance and durability.
The pistol ships with a high-visibility day/night sight system featuring a tritium front sight surrounded by photoluminescent paint and a rear sight with a white U-shaped outline. This setup allows quick sight acquisition in both bright and low-light environments.
Springfield’s Variable Interface System (VIS) allows direct mounting of a wide range of popular red-dot optics without adapter plates, reducing complexity and increasing durability. Backup iron sights remain visible through many optics.
The polymer grip module includes adaptive texture that provides traction without being overly abrasive. Additional texturing on the trigger guard and frame supports modern thumb-forward shooting techniques.
Three interchangeable backstraps allow shooters to adjust grip angle and size, though trigger reach remains consistent across configurations.

The Echelon Compact features ambidextrous slide release and magazine release controls, making it suitable for left- and right-handed users. A three-slot Picatinny rail allows mounting of weapon lights for home defense or duty use.
The magazine well includes beveling and relief cuts to assist with faster reloads and easier magazine removal.
The serialized Central Operating Group (COG) is constructed from stainless steel and can be removed from the grip module for maintenance or swapping frames.
Trigger pull weight typically falls between 4.5 and 5.0 pounds, with a crisp break and short reset, offering better out-of-the-box performance than many standard striker-fired pistols.
During testing, the Echelon Compact demonstrated excellent reliability and controllability. Despite its smaller size compared to the full-size model, recoil remained manageable, and muzzle rise was minimal.
The high-visibility front sight made rapid target acquisition easy, and accuracy testing showed consistent groups with multiple ammunition types.
The Compact version is clearly aimed at concealed carry users who want a mid-size pistol that balances capacity, shootability, and concealability. It is positioned to compete directly with established models like the Glock 19.
Holster options are still expanding, but support is increasing as the platform gains popularity.
