The TRP Carry Contour AOS Pistol: A Modern Evolution of the 1911

Origins and Legacy of the TRP

The TRP line originated from a federal requirement in the 1990s for a duty-grade pistol suitable for tactical teams. Over time, the platform has continued to evolve while maintaining the core characteristics that made it respected for durability, accuracy, and premium craftsmanship. Today, the TRP remains one of the more refined modern interpretations of the classic 1911 design.

The base TRP features a single-stack 1911A1-style design with front and rear cocking serrations, a rounded and grooved slide top to aid sight alignment, and a tritium front sight paired with a U-notch rear sight. Additional enhancements include an ambidextrous thumb safety, aggressive frontstrap checkering, and an integrated accessory rail that adds structural reinforcement to the frame and locking surfaces.

Modern Optics Integration (AOS System)

One of the most significant upgrades is the inclusion of the Agency Optic System (AOS), which allows users to mount red-dot optics directly to the slide. This modular system uses adapter plates to support various optics, allowing flexibility without permanent modifications.

The pistol typically ships with a cover plate and a discounted option to purchase the specific optic plate needed. The system allows users to swap between iron sights and optics without losing zero, making it practical for both duty use and range training.

Carry Contour Design Enhancements

The Carry Contour model introduces weight-reducing and concealment-focused upgrades. The frame uses aluminum to reduce overall weight, and the mainspring housing features a bobbed contour. This shape minimizes printing when concealed and improves comfort during daily carry.

Because of the lightweight frame design, the pistol omits the two-piece magazine well funnel found on other TRP models. However, the magwell opening is beveled to assist with faster reloads. The pistol also features precision 20 LPI frontstrap checkering and aggressive G10 grip panels designed for secure handling in all conditions.

9mm Chambering and Performance Advantages

This model is chambered in 9mm, which reduces recoil and improves shootability compared to traditional .45 ACP variants. The pistol uses an integral feed ramp barrel for enhanced reliability and full case support, even with higher-pressure ammunition.

The pistol ships with three magazines, allowing a carry loadout of one chambered round plus two spares. The magazines are compatible with aftermarket base pads for faster reloads.

Range Performance and Practical Use

In testing, the lightweight commander-size pistol demonstrated manageable recoil and strong reliability across multiple ammunition types. While the trigger pull weight may be heavier than competition-focused setups, it is considered ideal for defensive carry due to increased control under stress.

The pistol is available in Cerakote finishes, including black and flat dark earth (FDE), with contrasting black controls and textured grips. Accuracy performance was strong, with tight groups at typical defensive distances.
