Gemtech Introduces the Integra Integrally Suppressed Upper

Suppressors can dramatically reduce firearm noise, but they also add length to a rifle. Gemtech Introduces the Integra Integrally Suppressed Upper

Suppressors can dramatically reduce firearm noise, but they also add length to a rifle. When attached to a standard 16-inch barrel, a suppressor often turns a compact carbine into a rifle-length firearm. One common workaround is using a short-barreled rifle (SBR) with a suppressor, but that typically requires two separate NFA tax stamps.

The Integra Integrally Suppressed Upper from Gemtech offers a different approach. Instead of attaching a removable suppressor, the Integra integrates the suppressor directly into the rifle’s upper assembly. It uses a 10.5-inch barrel with a permanently attached suppressor that extends the total barrel length to over 16 inches, keeping it within standard rifle regulations while requiring only one tax stamp.

Complete AR-15 Upper Assembly

Rather than offering just a suppressor system, Gemtech designed the Integra as a complete AR-15 upper receiver assembly ready to mount onto most mil-spec AR-15 lower receivers.

The system includes components from several well-known manufacturers:

  • VLTOR modular flat-top upper receiver
  • Seekins Precision free-float aluminum handguard
  • Ballistic Advantage bolt carrier group
  • Bravo Company Manufacturing charging handle

The handguard features M-LOK slots at the 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions, along with a full-length Picatinny top railfor optics and accessories. This setup allows users to configure the rifle with their preferred optics, sights, and attachments.

Integrated Suppressor with G-Core Technology

The suppressor portion of the Integra uses Gemtech’s G-Core monocore system, a design where the internal baffle structure is machined from a single titanium component.

This monocore design offers several advantages:

  • Increased structural durability
  • Simplified maintenance
  • Improved gas management

The monocore threads onto the barrel muzzle and sits inside a titanium suppressor tube, leaving a large blast chamber at the rear of the suppressor. This chamber allows gases to expand and slow before exiting the muzzle, which significantly reduces noise.

Unlike many rifle suppressors, the Integra’s monocore can be removed for cleaning, which is relatively rare for centerfire rifle suppressors.

Easy Disassembly and Cleaning

The Integra includes a special disassembly tool, but the suppressor core can also be removed using a standard 3/8-inch socket wrench. The front of the core features a square socket interface designed for this purpose.

Gemtech also incorporated carbon-scraping channels along the sides of the monocore. These channels help remove carbon buildup inside the suppressor tube as the core is unscrewed, reducing the chances of the suppressor becoming stuck due to carbon fouling.

Regular cleaning is still recommended, as heavy carbon buildup can make the core more difficult to remove after extended shooting sessions.

Gas Management and Reduced Blowback

One challenge with suppressed AR-15 rifles is gas blowback, which can direct gas toward the shooter’s face during firing.

To address this, Gemtech incorporated a bore evacuator system into the Integra. Similar in principle to systems used on large artillery or tank cannons, the evacuator directs gas forward through the suppressor, helping reduce gas buildup inside the rifle’s action.

This design allows the rifle to remain relatively comfortable to shoot even during extended suppressed firing sessions.

Performance and Sound Reduction

The Integra produces a reported sound level of approximately 131 decibels, which is extremely quiet for a 5.56 NATO rifle. In many cases, the mechanical noise of the rifle’s bolt cycling becomes one of the most noticeable sounds during firing.

While the supersonic crack of the bullet cannot be eliminated, the muzzle blast is greatly reduced. This results in a significantly quieter shooting experience compared to an unsuppressed rifle.

The integrated design also helps maintain consistent accuracy, with testing showing approximately 1-MOA accuracy at 100 yards using various .223/5.56 loads even with the relatively short 10.5-inch barrel.

Design Considerations

Like most integrally suppressed systems, the Integra does have some trade-offs.

Weight

The upper assembly weighs approximately 80 ounces (about 5 pounds). While this is heavier than many standard AR-15 uppers, a comparable short-barreled rifle with a large suppressor attached would often weigh a similar amount.

Handguard Size

Because the suppressor sits inside the handguard, the handguard must be slightly wider than typical competition-style AR-15 handguards. This provides enough clearance for the suppressor tube but results in a somewhat larger overall profile.

Heat

During extended firing, the suppressor and surrounding handguard can become very hot, so gloves are recommended when shooting for long periods.

Caliber Options

The Integra Integrally Suppressed Upper is available in two calibers:

  • 5.56 NATO / .223 Remington
  • .300 AAC Blackout

The .300 Blackout version can be particularly quiet when paired with subsonic ammunition, producing the kind of low-signature shooting often associated with cinematic “Hollywood-quiet” suppressor setups.

A Suppressed AR-15 with Only One Tax Stamp

The Integra Integrally Suppressed Upper provides an innovative way to enjoy a suppressed AR-15 platform without the complications of registering both a short-barreled rifle and a suppressor separately. By permanently attaching the suppressor to a short barrel, Gemtech created a system that maintains legal rifle length while delivering the benefits of suppressed shooting.

For shooters who want a compact suppressed AR-15 with strong sound reduction and solid accuracy, the Integra represents a carefully engineered, all-in-one solution.
